Character of the Great Dane
Very attached to his masters, this great sensitive can however be suspicious and/ or shy, especially towards strangers.

Know how to select a breeder who carefully socializes his litters to avoid buying a shy or nervous puppy.

Under no circumstances should you buy this dog on a whim.

Its size is impressive and the presence of a Great Dane in a family has practical consequences that can easily be imagined...

This animal does not need much exercise.

He can be educated in tracking because his flair is far above his reputation.

Despite its impressive physical characteristics, the Great Dane is a very affectionate, kind and delicate dog. He is very calm and discreet indoors. He also has a strong protective attitude towards members of his household. In addition to being a deterrent guard dog with its powerful bark, the Great Dane is also a real companion dog that knows how to show all the love he feels for his family. With its gentle character, it can easily cohabit with children.   Despite his past as a hunting dog, the Great Dane is sociable with other animals, especially with cats with whom he often gets along very well.

The ideal master

A gentle and patient master who will know how to socialize and educate him without brutality because the Great Dane dog puppy is shy, even if he knows how to be stubborn.

It is not a dog that we raise, nor destined to live in a kennel. It must share the daily life of the family, including during its movements.

The main thing is to have time to devote to it because this giant with a big heart needs a lot of attention not to feel left out. He does not appreciate solitude and requires the presence of his master to be fulfilled. The caresses, games and attention will undoubtedly make her happy!

The Great Dane, character, origins, care...

History of the breed
The origin of the race has long been a matter of controversy. The situation was explained by the fact that the German Dogge is indeed of German origin, but that the breed was widespread in Denmark at a certain time, hence its other name: Great Dane. This breed comes from a line of hunting dogs of wild boars and bulls in the Middle Ages.

From the Middle Ages, the lords surrounded themselves with their ancestors, the Alans, versatile dogs used for hunting, guard and company.

The Great Dane would descend from the Molosse of Tibet and the old Bullenbeisser.

Then their strain was improved by an infusion of greyhound blood to make them faster and more enduring to the chasing. The term Doge refers to several powerful races. The breeding of the Gereat Dane began in 1878, in Berlin. The first standard was established in 1880 at a dog show. Several modifications were made to this standard before being what is now the one that is recognized FCI

Care
. Owners must ensure that their Great Danes vaccines and dewormers are up to date. They must also provide quality nutrition, avoid giving them exercise immediately before or after meals

The Great Dane is not very old. Under its powerful and solid appearance, it is hardly rustic and must be closely monitored. You should limit sports activities when the puppy is still a puppy: this could cause irreversible damage to his joints.

growth is very delicate and requires a high-quality diet and moderate physical activity to preserve the joints, but sufficient to develop muscles

Grooming
Time to relax! Grooming is an important step in the life of an animal.

Keeping your short coat is relatively simple. A weekly brushing with a soft rubber brush or a suitable glove is ideal to remove dead hair and contribute to the good health of his skin and coat. With its short coat, the Great Dane is sensitive to cold. It is therefore not recommended to leave it outside when it is very cold (or very hot). Also check the condition of his ears, eyes, skin and cut his claws regularly
